Spring changes the local dining

Spring has brought new changes to the local Russian River area.

You cant ignore a record breaking amount of rain when you live in the Russian River area. The local streams are sparkling and the sound of the rushing water fills the air. The Russian River has a near normal flow for the first time in many years. And Austin Creek has more water than I have seen since moving to the area. Its really a breathtaking time at the Russian River.

I had another great meal at Boon’s on Friday night. Their cliental had picked up with the beginning of the season and the atmosphere was lively even early in the evening. I really continue to be impressed with Boon’s as a great local spot to eat. I had several small plates last night, the three color beet sald was superb and the brocholini crunchy and full of flavor. Boon sure spoils you with great food.

The local eatery in Monte Rio, Tres Jumelles moved to Guerneville, but another family is opening a new resturant in May called the “Drunken Robin”. The new owners are going to do a breakfast, lunch and dinner menu. And they look forward to nightloy specials under $10. That will be a hit, since it’s right across from Don’s Dogs and a prime location. My favorite spot for lunch in Monte Rio continues to be Don’s Dogs. They are at the other end of the “theater”, and you couldnt find a more family friendly place. Don and his wife host everyone, like they are family. And they recently fenced off a great meadow, proudly announcing “the new dog park”. I have to admit it makes an inviting afternoon. Oliver loved running around in the grass, and I had my hot dog and watched his antics from the deck.

I like a simple afternoon in the Russian River. A hot dog or lunch in town is always easy and another way to enjoy my time at the river.
