Laid back and ahead of the curve

It is so great to return from a vacation and still feel that laid back influence.

I know is part of the reason I like having a Russian River vacation rental. Having a true “get away” where I escape to another time zone is much better. When I am truly enjoying myself, its taking advantage of what is really local in a laid back style with no attached time table.

This attitude has even influenced the whys and hows I buy wine. Despite spending years in the business, growing merlot. I have discovered the real joy of knowing someone, that knows exactly what I need to taste wine wise next.

I met John when I first used his store on a last minute supply run. John Hagard owns and manages Sophie’s Cellars in Monte Rio. (Its really a perfect location, since I pass it every time I am running errands.) Right from the beginning advice he has always been spot on. And since that time I have always managed to let him guide my tastebuds, as long as I could limit the price, it seemed like a fair trade. I owe John my introduction to Balleto Pinot, and recently he introduced me to a couple of bottles of Trecini, Sauvignon Blanc. Since my earliest experiences are Mia Klein’s, Sauvignon, I was totally pleased with this new wine. And since I recently saw John’s review I understand now why I feel like I was ahead of the curve. John has also become the man to see, when you want to tour the local vineyards and wineries. He really has become a specialist on our area. The laid back style of the Russian River just allows you the time to really savoir special wines and resources like Sophie’ Cellars.
